After 2 1/2 years of being together, Chris asked me to marry him! It was such a beautiful day, and I can remember it vividly, a year later. It actually happened around this time last year, on March 12, 2016.
It was the first day of spring break, and when I woke up, Chris wanted to make me breakfast (french toast with a berry compote). I remember that he was pretty concerned if I liked the breakfast or not, which I thought was kind of weird- why is he paying so much attention to this? I reassured him that I liked it a lot, and that it was really sweet of him.
Then, after I was finished, he pulled out a card he handmade for me- I was getting teary because I LOVE cards, and he's not really big on giving cards... and the once or twice that he's given them to me, they've been store-bought (which is totally fine!). As I'm reading it, I start crying because he wrote all kinds of lovely things about me and why he loves me, and that I make him happy. So once I'm done reading it, I tell him that it's amazing and I'm having a great morning, and he adds, "I think I can make it a little better," and he takes out a ring and proposes. I was genuinely shocked and so happy.
Later, roses were delivered, and Chris told me to get dressed because we were going out with Shadow- then I got suspicious because the card he made specifically said something about flowers and a family- so now I was thinking we would be getting another dog! He kind of denied it and wouldn't tell me where we were going, but I pretty much knew. We ended up at an adoption event and waited around for a little while for soon-to-be Nara to arrive. One of the local shelters had put this event on and brought in some dogs to be adopted. Chris had already spoken to the agency and picked out this puppy (7 months old at the time), but we needed to make sure that I liked her (of course! How am I going to refuse any dog!?!?) but more importantly, that Shadow liked her.
When she arrived (Mia was her name at the time, which I liked, but we decided to re-name her), we took her and Shadow to a grassy area to see how they interacted. I think they sniffed a little and stayed near each other, but they were super calm around each other. After a while, it definitely seemed like a great fit- and we brought them both home. :) A year later and they are amazing together- definitely pack mates.
I love that he planned this all out and tailored it to me- he knew I loved cards, sentimental messages, flowers, and that I wanted another pup. Also, it was very low-key- I do not like being the center of attention, so he made sure it was romantic and private. And of course, he picked out the ring with me in mind, too. The clarity of the center diamond is stunning, and I think he did an amazing job with the whole thing. I am so excited to be marrying the love of my life later this year!
How did your significant other propose? If they haven't yet, do you have a dream scenario?
