Over the course of 2014, I've seen a few bloggers talking about their word of the year- it turns out, Ali Edwards started One Little Word years ago, and even added a workshop for it in 2011. While I was glad that they had their word, it didn't seem like something I would do for myself... until I thought of what I wanted to accomplish in 2015.
I want to stop being afraid of the unknown, so fearless came to mind as my word, but it didn't seem right to me. I didn't want to become fearless, just able to accept things a bit more.
I wanted to tackle challenges and fears head on- I wanted to embrace them. That meant I could still be afraid, but I would have to persevere (another possibility I was throwing around) and accept what changes were happening.
Instead of 'let go,' a phrase I resonate with because I have such a hard time doing exactly that, I could choose to embrace the opposite.
Also, embrace is such a positive word, and I can use it in any context: maybe I should learn to embrace people more- both their personalities and by hugging them.
The more I thought about other words, the more I really, really love this one as my goal for the new year.
I'm embracing 2015- bring it on!
What's your word of the year? Are you sticking to resolutions or nothing at all?
