One of my favorite things to do is watch tv- I like to come home and unwind after a long day by getting comfortable and putting on a show. Instead of doing a monthly shows update, I want to do a quarterly update. Here's my Winter update.
If my show isn't running when I do the update, then I won't feature it (Game of Thrones, for example) OR, if I'm not currently watching it actively, I won't feature it (I'm way behind on The Walking Dead, so even though it just came back a while ago, I can't talk about it yet). If I'm binge watching a show but it's not actively on, I'll still put it on here.
There may be spoilers, so please read at your own risk!
Here are my thoughts on most of my current shows in ABC order:
*Shows Chris and I watch together
Are You The One?: Yeah, this is one of those MTV shows, but I put it on in the background this weekend as I was doing chores or playing games on my phone, and some of it is pretty interesting, so what can I say? I'm currently watching the season finale of season 5, and it seems like this group has been the least likely to earn the money, but I'm hoping they can still pull it off!
Blindspot*: Wow, so much has happened to this cast... especially Patterson. I'm still not over what happened to her first major boyfriend- he was just SUCH A GOOD GUY, and they were perfect. This show continues to keep me invested, and I really like the characters. Reade's drug problem is an interesting twist... I think he and Zapata will eventually get together even though they're torn apart right now.
Designated Survivor: Who doesn't love Kirkman's character? He's such a refreshing POTUS! Plus, the mystery behind what happened- with all the twists, like the VP getting shot by his wife- keeps me watching every week. I'm sure a lot of what goes on in this White House is for-tv, but I know some of it is steeped in reality, so it's cool to get a "behind the scenes" look at everyone's jobs in the highest office.
Grey's Anatomy: I think I've lost a little interest in this show at this point. SO many of the original characters are gone and some of the plots for the remaining characters are ANNOYING... like the fight between Mere and Maggie about Riggs and Amelia's character with Owen, OMG. Also, the plane episode? It was really good, but it's been done SO MANY TIMES. I loved the prison episode because it was different- they need another one of those episodes to hook the audience!
The Handmaid's Tale: Binging on the first 3 episodes makes me want to read this book so badly! Wow, was it captivating. I think this one is so wonderful because (if you haven't read the book) you don't know what happens in this world and some of it is just so obscene, so you never know what's coming. The way that the mistress of the house treats the main character after she got her period, holy shit 180...
Harlots: Am I most excited about this show or the Handmaid's Tale? I'm not sure. This one is definitely a little X-rated, but it's riveting, and I love the characters. Even though this is clearly fiction, I love historical dramas and the fact that it's set in a different time period where a lot of every day things were handled differently- like pouring waste on the streets. ;)
Law & Order- SVU: I feel like this show's airings are so sporadic- not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that I watch it on Hulu, but it doesn't come out every week for me. When it does come out, even though it's on its 18th season, it still manages to leave me wanting more- probably because the cases are so relevant!
Scandal: Oh my gosh. This new season has gotten me HOOKED. Last season was pretty lame, honestly, but I love how the characters feel that they have no way out from their "oppressors" who want to take control of the White House. I just thought about Olivia on the beach... wow, a lot has changed. Also, she's back with the president? Can they make up their minds? Also, there's been a lot of interesting filler episodes, like the alternate reality one with Fitz and Olivia. And thank God Huck is still alive! P.S. I love Quinn and Charlie.
Shades of Blue: I was blown-away by the first season, and this season is meh for me. I keep watching because some points are pretty good, but it's just not as enthralling as some of the other shows I watch. I love JLo though. Have you watched her in Enough? Probably my favorite movie she's done because she plays such a badass character.
Shark Tank: I think I'm too emotional to become an investor. Some of the stories and the GOOD people who have built these companies really get to me. When investors don't pick them, I feel so bad for the entrepreneurs! I feel better in the fact that their sales go up (at least for a short amount of time) from the show's exposure. Some of the products aren't that appealing, and then they get chosen... but then again, these are some of the top people in the field.
Teen Mom OG: Yey, the girls are back! Reading some of the comments on Facebook have got me thinking deeper about the moms... like who is working and who isn't, and what type of businesses their putting their money into or starting. I love seeing the moms do well and see them raising their children- can you believe that this all started 8 years ago?! The moms are basically my age so it's crazy to think about if I were in their shoes. Also, seeing some clips of the moms from the beginning seasons to now is insane- they've changed so much!
That's it! I think I covered all the shows I'm actively watching that are also actively on air. I watched most of the first episode of 12 Monkeys but haven't gotten into it enough to finish it, so we'll see. I know Chris loves it and thinks I will too, I just need to commit to it.
Please drop a comment so we can discuss these shows! I always love discussing them with other people! Is there a show you LOVE and would like to recommend it to me? I'm always looking for new shows to watch.
*Hey everyone- I didn't post on Monday because I didn't have a post lined up and I got very sick Saturday night-Monday night. Today was definitely a lot more manageable though I'm still under the weather. Thanks for understanding!
The Imitation Game | This movie is phenomenal. It's based on a true story (those movies always get me) and it's insane to think of what this man did for his country and how he was treated. I can't recommend this one enough- definitely a must-see!
William & Kate | This is a romantic biopic on Netflix and I thought it was pretty good! I've been into romance movies lately. If this genre is your jam, definitely check it out.
Labor Day | An interesting premise for a chick flick but the movie was great. I like how it wasn't just the same old thing- I would recommend it!
Downton Abbey | This is definitely a favorite show of mine. If you haven't yet started to watch this, IT'S A MUST. It's absolutely AMAZING. I can't sing it's praises enough! This season is really good- I can't wait to see what happens with Mary and Edith.
The Biggest Loser | One of my guilty pleasures. I feel that this show is so motivating and I love that the contestants really seem to be changing mentally and physically. I really love Sonya this season!
Celebrity Apprentice | It's so fascinating to see the celebrities working together and getting these major tasks completed. You can really see everyone's true colors. I love watching to see what ideas everyone comes up with for their projects!
Parenthood | This show only has an episode or two left! It's a pretty good one to watch, but definitely not my favorite. I'm looking to see how they end the series.
The Bachelor | I CANNOT stand some of the girls on this show. I realize some of it is fake but you can definitely tell that most of these women act the way they do on the show in their real lives as well. I only like a handful of the women competing.
Law & Order: SVU | Such a great show! I miss Stabler SOSO much, as well as Cragen, but the show has continued pretty well without them too.
Scorpion | I love how each episode has the right about of emotion and wit in it. It's so great to hear the dialogue and figure out what they're going to do next. I hope the network continues this show for a second season!
I'm looking to start The Americans because I heard it was an awesome show (available via Amazon Prime) but I'm not sure when since I still have a bunch of shows to watch on Chris's list.
What movies and shows have you been watching?
Remembrance | This is such a beautiful movie! It's currently on Netflix and features a Holocaust & love theme- you'll definitely want tissues close by. It's SO GOOD though. Let me know what you guys think!
Smash His Camera | I love documentaries and this one came recommended by The College Prepster, so I wanted to give it a try. Very interesting if you're intrigued by Jackie Kennedy or the paparazzi. You get the paparazzi's point of view (or at least one man's POV).
Fifth Element | There are an absurd amount of older movies that I haven't seen that many people think I should. This is a movie that gets talked about every so often, and Chris and I watched it on a random date night- it was pretty good. (sci-fi movie)
Philadelphia | Yes, the 1993 drama with Tom Hanks & Denzel Washington- I thought it was a great movie! Since I wasn't around when there was mass hysteria about AIDS, it was really eye-opening to see the prejudice that affected people went through.
13 Sins | So creepy! It was a pretty good thriller/horror about what people will do for money.
1001 to 1 | A light, heartfelt movie- often cheesy and predictable, but based on a true story, Cory Weissman's. I thought it was pretty decent (not released in theaters, but is on Netflix).
Roswell | Finally finished this show! I was glad to cross it off of this list. I think the series finale was a good one, and it was a great teen show that I could still appreciate in my twenties.
Farscape | This show is heavy on sci-fi, so it's difficult for me to get into. Again, it's on Chris's recommended watch list, which is on my 101 in 1001 list, so I wanted to get it out of the way earlier rather than later. Although this isn't my favorite show, it's a pretty good one!
Gilmore Girls | Who isn't devouring this show on Netflix right now? I LOVE it. I haven't seen any episodes for a few years, so it was nice to binge-watch from the beginning! I'm halfway through season 6, currently. Trying not to watch it too fast D:
The Biggest Loser | I like that they've changed it up this season and I like the majority, if not all of the contestants this year. This is one of my favorite shows!
Are there any movies or shows you've seen lately that have been particularly good or bad? Let me know what your recommendations are, I'd love to look into them!
The Biggest Loser: Finally! I missed it all summer! I also miss Jillian, but I'm glad Bob is sort of still on the show. The new trainers seem pretty good, and my favorite is still alive and well- Dolvett!
Roswell: It finally started to pick up! It's crazy right now. I just started the third (last) season- it's bittersweet though, I don't want these episodes to be the last. I'm really curious about how they'll end it.
Extreme Weight Loss: Still loving this show. Not sure how many episodes are left for this season, but I'm definitely enjoying it while it lasts.
Teen Mom 2: Always in my favorites... and so are some other reality shows- don't judge! I also like cerebral shows & movies. It's insane and awesome how some of the moms have mentally grown up in the last few years.
Hell's Kitchen: I feel like last season just ended, but I'm glad there wasn't much of a turnaround time. I like watching this while I do listings or crafts!
America's Next Top Model: I AM SO GLAD THAT ROMEO GOT KICKED OFF. He was such an egotistical jerk. I was done with him from episode 1. I'm sad Chanetelle left so early though, I liked her.
I can't wait until Grey's, Scandal, SVU, Blacklist, etc. come back on! I am in love with those shows.
Star Wars IV: I haven't seen any of the Star Wars series except tidbits of a few here and there. So, this was my first exposure and it was pretty good! Very long, but good.
Star Wars V: I absolutely love R2-D2! He's my favorite, I think. I'm not sure if I liked this movie better than IV, but I'm persevering through.
Kiss the Girls: This was pretty crazy. Another old movie, but it was really interesting to watch!
Double Indemnity: It's on the AFI movies list, and definitely one of my favorites so far. Most of the other old movies I've hated, like High Noon. Just wasn't captivating enough, but this was super interesting!
The Woman Who Wasn't There: A documentary on Netflix about a woman who lied about her whereabouts during 9/11. Super interesting!
What've you guys been watching lately? Any recommendations? What do you think about the shows/movies mentioned above?
Also, here were my goals for the weekend:
-Complete library module for class
-Do week 11 for Project Life
-Catch up on all neglected homework
-Create 3 new blog posts
-Finish all of this week's homework
...Pretty sad. Although I did get a decent amount done for the neglected homework and the homework due this week, I just didn't finish everything. I also worked on a blog post, but definitely didn't get 3 done. Where does my time go!? How'd you do with your goals/to-do list this weekend?
Catfish: I watched a few episodes when this show first came out, and I thought it was nice and then moved on with my life. I rediscovered it and I'm an addict all of a sudden! I LOVE IT.
Roswell: It's my type of show and not my type of show at once. I love the romantic aspect, but this show is VERY late 90s, early 00s with the plot lines. (it took about 8 episodes for the protagonists to kiss... UGH. I know most shows have this dance, but this one seems especially drawn out) So, it's cool, I kind of like it, but I'm mostly watching it because it's on my Movies & Shows I Should Watch List (by Chris), which is on my 101 in 1001 list.
The Little Couple: A few people on the blogosphere were saying great things about this show and although Netflix is limited on their seasons (WHY!?), I still enjoy this show. Hulu doesn't even offer it, which makes me mad... why do I pay for Hulu Plus!?
Farscape: Also on Chris's list for me to watch... it's kinda cool, I like it. Not usually into Syfys though, so it's not as natural for me to watch as other shows are.
Extreme Weight Loss: Wow, all of my shows this month are either reality or syfy... anyway, I LOVE THIS SHOW. I seriously have a love for weight loss shows- they're so inspiring to me. I love watching people better themselves!
I haven't been watching a whole lot of movies this month ): I started Annie Hall and 30 mins in, I still wasn't feelin' it. I need to finish it though, since it's one of the movies on AFI's Top 100... on my 101 in 1001 list.
Unbreakable: Pretty good movie. It was a little strange, but good overall, and I enjoyed the ending!
Guardians of the Galaxy: I can't believe I almost forgot to put this one down! It was awesome- way better than I expected! Let's be honest though... Groot made the movie <3
What movies & shows have you been watching lately? Any that you'd like to recommend? I like serious movies/shows like dramas, documentaries, thrillers, etc. (: Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin', Twitter and Pinterest if you like what you see on my blog.
It's been a while since I did my last movie/show update, so here's my newest one! This post, although a bit lengthy, is one of the easier posts to put together, since I've been dedicating all my time to unpacking and moving and shopping for the new home.
The Bachelorette: I really love Marcus! I think Nick and Andi have a lot of chemistry, but he just doesn't sit right with me. I'm upset that she let Brian go because he was a good guy, but they didn't have much chemistry. I also like Chris! And I'm also unsure about Josh M.
Parenthood: Finally caught all the way up! This is also a show I'll watch when cleaning, etc., so it's not my favorite, but I like it and I'm pretty invested in the characters! I'm never happy with who everyone ends up with, though- mostly speaking about Amber and her mom.
Hell's Kitchen: I always have this on in the background when I'm cleaning or whatnot, but it's still pretty interesting. I think I've been watching this since season 9 or 10. I want
Grey's Anatomy: This really shows that I haven't done a new shows/movies post in a while since it's been over a month that the season's been over. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE SEASON FINALE. I cannot wait to see where it goes for the new season, holy crap. The last scene just got me. I also think Christina's farewell went well. It's so tough to see her go, though. /:
Game of Thrones: I've only gotten through a few episodes, but it's definitely interesting and I can't wait to watch more!
Community: Not usually my type of show, but it's pretty entertaining and witty, so I like that. I'll put it on in the background when I'm doing something else!
I might start watching Little People as well, since I've heard it's so good!
I can't wait for Teen Mom 2 to come back. I've seen all the episodes for all the Teen Moms- definitely a guilty pleasure! (as is 16 & Pregnant)
The Fault in Our Stars: Oh YES. I loved this movie! The book was amazing as well.
X-men: The Last Stand: The best one thus far! So amazing that I saw it in theaters twice (:
Captain Phillips: It was slow at parts, but I definitely enjoyed it- super interesting!
Radio: I know this one's old, but I caught it on Netflix the other day and really enjoyed it. I love these types of movies, like where the underdog wins, feel good movies, etc.
Exam: This one is a few years old and is on Netflix- I'd watch it if you like psychological movies! It's very minimal, but very interesting as well.
Denzel Washington movies- I love him! He's a great actor and all of the movies I've seen with him in it are awesome. I'm on a mission to watch them all!
Are there any movies or shows you guys have seen lately that're awesome!? Please drop me a line and let me know! Or discuss any of these shows with me, I'd love to read what you have to say (:
I FINALLY finished Dexter the other night- I was on the fifth season for the longest time. I'm so sad it's over! How do you guys feel about the ending? I read an interview that the writers participated in (read it here!) and it helped me cope with the finale a little more.
So now that that's over ): , I've been trying to hunt down another great series to binge watch via Netflix (or Hulu Plus). Do you have any suggestions? Here are some series that I have tried over the past few days that haven't worked out for me:
Parenthood: almost 2 episodes in and I just couldn't get into it
The Office: almost finished 1 episode- not my type of show at all
The Fall: Netflix original- House of Cards & Orange is the New Black are fantastic and this fell short for me (I may give it another try though because I think it was just starting to get interesting as I was progressing)
Brothers & Sisters: I haven't completely finished episode 1 yet, but I'm veering away
What are some recommendations for good television shows? I tend to stick to dramas (LOVE Grey's Anatomy & Downton Abbey) and witty series (The Blacklist & Almost Human). I need another blog post to talk about all the shows I love... I could probably write novels.
In other screen-related news, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE FAULT IN OUR STARS TO COME OUT IN THEATERS. (June 6th for those of you who are not counting down!) I read the book last summer and it was fantastic.
One more big-screen/book-turned-movie note: I started reading Divergent before the movie came out, and I actually saw the movie when I was about 3/4 done with the book. Interestingly, I really enjoyed reading most of the book but not all of it before seeing the movie. Why? Because I was hopping around in my seat and playfully hitting my boyfriend when I knew a good scene was about to come on, but, the ending was a cool surprise for me, so I got the best of both worlds. I haven't read reviews from others who read the book and saw the movie, but I was very pleased with how well the movie followed the book. PLEASE go see it if you haven't, and also read the book! I enjoyed both, but I welcome diverse opinions too- let me know what you thought. (:
