I have a weekly spread, but I journal daily. It's broken down into 8 'sections.' I'll get into detail about each section, but for the sake of quick introductions... I run my week from Sunday-Saturday, and for each day, I have a gratitude and devotional section. I also make a space for a quote and song of the week, a small monthly calendar, the month and week, weekly goals, and my weekly list. I also have 'a year in pixels,' which documents my mood throughout the year, but that's on it's own separate page. I also want to do a monthly recap, but I'm not sure what that will look like yet.
For journaling this year, I knew I wanted to focus on gratitude- because I want to be intentional about positivity. I intend on emphasizing the good instead of the bad, so everyday, I write at least one thing that I'm grateful for that day- usually something good that happened. I don't have a number restriction (like I have to write 3 things I'm grateful for), I'm sure I'll have more some days and less other days- I'm leaving it open.
I received a Christmas gift this year from a student and it was a 365 devotions book. I thought it was a sweet sentiment but I wasn't sure that I would use it- I'm not very religious. However, with more thought, I feel like it might be perfect to journal about. While I may take a more secular approach, the book still has good ideas applicable to daily life. For the devotional, I'll just write my response to it that day and I'm sure the length will depend daily.
Year in Pixels
It's basically a year-long mood tracker- I'm hoping to have more good moods than bad ;) - so far so good! I saw this idea on instagram and fell in love with it- it's right up my alley with focusing on positivity... if I see that my moods are getting bad, I know I need to intervene.
Weekly Song & Quote
As the heading says, I write these once a week, and it's something nice to center the week around. The songs aren't always new (I have LeAnn Rimes' "Can't Fight the Moonlight" for this week), it's whatever I feel is appropriate for that week/can't stop listening to/etc. The quote is also something to center the week around. I've always loved quotes and love that I can pick a new one each week, in line with what I need.
Weekly List & Goals
I found the 52 weeks of lists on Pinterest, so I'm challenging myself to do all 52 this year. So far I've done 'goals and dreams for the year,' 'favorite fictional characters,' and 'happiest moments of your life so far.' I love it! I'm not taking my weekly goals super seriously- the past 2 weeks I haven't really been able to accomplish them, but they're there to remind me that it's something that I need to eventually do or just to keep in mind.
I've been changing my layout each week, so I feel that that will continue- hopefully I can be creative enough to fill out 52 different spreads! I like that I can take 5 minutes out of my day to reflect and ground myself. Even if I don't get a chance to do my journaling one night, I can always catch up the next day.
Who knows if I'll add or take anything away, but right now, what I have feels right. Are you doing any journaling this year? What's your focus?
